Curated by Gail Sellers, Phil Sellers, and Arthur De Bow, I’ll Drink to That features drinking vessels and other studio pottery objects by more than 20 ceramic artists from Oregon and Arizona to North Adams.
I’ll Drink to That underscores the aesthetic and technical diversity of contemporary American ceramic artists that create high-end functional yet exquisite objects. The ceremonial tea bowls, wine cups, whisky glasses, steins, chowder mugs and other vessels on display demonstrate a variety of clays, glazes, and firing processes.
“There is so much wonderful work being done in the field of pottery,” explains Gail Sellers. “We felt that a focus on cups and vessels would be exciting to organize as well as to experience. By maintaining an inventory of the pieces on display, visitors can purchase an object and take it home without waiting until the end of the exhibition. Simultaneously, we have opened up a new market for many of these artists who don’t necessarily have access to consumers in New England.”
In developing the concept for the show the curators compiled wish lists of potters they most admired. “The response that we have gotten has exceeded our expectations,” said Phil Sellers. “This may well be the launch of what will become an annual or semi-annual event.”
